Most societies around the world are facing ageing populations and intense demographic redistribution. However, these increases in longevity are not always accompanied by significant improvements in health and quality of life of older people and often imply an increase in non-communicable disorders such as cardiovascular disease. To determine how to prevent cardiovascular disease and adequate ageing and what risk factors are associated with vascular ageing we are establishing a 3 year Post Doctoral position.
The Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care is part of the University Medical Center Utrecht, The Netherlands. You will be appointed at the Department of Public Health at the Julius Center. The department conducts high-impact research in the areas of lifestyle and prevention, public health care and global health with the aim to generate evidence that contributes to improved health and equity in health and to educate new generations of researchers and health care professionals worldwide.
You are an enthusiastic public health researcher with experience in doing epidemiological research within areas related to public health and prevention. You have a background in health sciences, epidemiology or public health and extensive experience working in multidisciplinary research teams. Having experience managing a project and working with cohort studies are additional assets.
As the ideal candidate for this position, you have a PhD in medicine, health sciences, epidemiology, public health, social or life-sciences. You have thorough experience in quantitative data analyses.
You have an excellent track record in cardiovascular disease prevention and/or healthy ageing, experience working in or collaborating with scientific institutions and acquisition of research funding. You thrive in an international, multidisciplinary environment and are a good collaborator. You can work well independently, communicate effectively, have excellent didactic, written and verbal English skills and experience. Within this position we expect you to develop, conduct and contribute to management and implementation of research projects, publications and grant proposals as well as to departmental research, contribute to PhD supervision and education activities in public health.
You are highly motivated and aim for a long-term career aspiration and would like to further develop in the field of prevention and public health.
This position will be a temporary appointment for 3 years in the first place, starting with 1 year contract. The position is available immediately, therefore, the starting date is as soon as possible.
