As a postdoc, you will focus on a project with a strong focus on clinical translation of our basic lab projects. A cell-based bone substitute is at the center of our XLbone project (). You will integrate knowledge of fundamental growth plate developmental biology, fracture healing, bone regeneration, clinical needs for bone defect regeneration and regulatory challenges. In more detail, you will design and apply for a first-in-man trial and prepare all related documentation. As a member of the XLbone team, you will also collaborate on achieving other project milestones. Depending on your personal preferences and experience, you will take part in basic lab and cell culture studies. Preparation of a business case and cost-effectiveness assessment are optional.
You will be responsible for the progression of the project and will report on your progress and prepare presentations and manuscripts for publication. Finally, you are expected to contribute to the research line with the preparation of grant and project proposals. You will be involved in educational programs and in the supervision of students.
This will be a temporary appointment as Postdoc for 1 year. When successful, the appointment can be extended with 1-2 additional years.
The department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery & Special Dental Care (UMC Utrecht) encompasses a young, international, and translational research group that is working on stem cells and regenerative medicine towards implementation in the maxillofacial clinical practice. The vacancy is part of the XLbone project and consists of a collaborative project of our department, the department of Orthopaedics and several companies. The team consists of clinicians, biomedical engineers and biomedical scientists. You will directly work with the PI and a PhD student who is appointed on the XLbone project.
You will perform research on the interface of our lab research and a first-in-man trial in the area of musculoskeletal regeneration at the Regenerative Medicine Center Utrecht (RMCU).
You have a PhD in (bio)medical engineering/ tissue regeneration, or related area, an affinity with translational research, and you thrive in a multidisciplinary research environment. You are an enthusiastic researcher and team player. You have experience in cell culture, in vivo experiments, regulatory landscape at EMA and FDA, valorization of IP, and/or clinical trials. You have proven experience in preparation of high quality research publications in the field of tissue regeneration. Experience in the field of musculoskeletal regenerative medicine is an advantage.
Further, you are highly motivated and flexible with strong planning and problem solving skills. Your style is efficient and independent at decision making. You have excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as supervisory skills.
