In the RepurpSS-I trial detailed clinical scoring and extensive molecular analyses (bulk and single cell RNA sequencing, Olink proteomics, flowcytometry) have been and continue to be performed to understand the immunological/biological processes behind successful treatment and the lack of efficacy and how to best monitor and predict treatment response.
Your project will focus on the analyses of data from several omics layers (transcriptomics, single cell transcriptomics, proteomics, flow cytometry) from several biological samples (blood, tissue and dry blood spots). Using a systems biology approach you will integrate these data sets to comprehend the biological processes and clinical findings and to find biomarkers to monitor and predict these.
As a Postdoc at the University Medical Center Utrecht (UMCU) at the department of Rheumatology & Clinical Immunology and the Julius Center, you will apply (and develop) statistical and computational research methods for multiple omics and clinical datasets (i.e. via WGCNA, machine learning tools, etc.). Our department is strongly embedded in the Center for Translational Immunology. You will interact with and develop research collaborations with our direct bioinformation colleagues from the department of Data Science and Biostatistics in the Julius Center and others within the CTI in the UMCU.
You will coordinate your work within an (inter)national network of collaborators, including industry partners. Moreover, collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, biologists, statisticians, and bioinformaticians form an essential part of the job. The dept. of Rheumatology & Clinical Immunology is part of the division of internal medicine and dermatology (DIGD), which focusses on optimal patientcare, education, and (translational) research.
The translational research within the department originates from clinical questions regarding healthcare, that are translated to the laboratory, and findings from the laboratory are translated back to improve the treatment of patients. Final use of the research outcomes in patient care is the main objective.
The Julius Center is a knowledge center for Health Sciences and Primary Care, and conducts multidisciplinary scientific research translated into new diagnosis and treatment methods. Different methodological departments (including epidemiology, biostatistics, data science, health technology assessment and ethics) are represented.
Research is performed in close collaboration between physicians, clinical researchers, research nurses, methodologists, bio-informaticians, technicians, and biochemists. Your team involves 10 people, each with their own expertise. Multidisciplinairy meetings create a dynamic and open work environment.
As well as previous research experience in immunology/biology, you will have a PhD in biostatistics, mathematics, bioinformatics, and/or other quantitative science / You have obtained a PhD in computational immunology (biology) or in experimental molecular immunology (biology) with a documented experience in computational analysis of 'omics types of data.
We are looking for a bioinformatics/ statistician with experience in programing/scripting languages or otherwise a programmer with strong background in statistics. Experience with analysis of single cell RNA sequencing is a plus. You are enthusiastic for understanding, developing and integration of scRNA data analysis methods.
You also have good communication skills, which enables you to interact with colleagues with different backgrounds. The initial contract will be for a period of one year, in case of mutual agreement this will be extended.
